The occasional downside of supporting the freshest innovations

5 July 2007 8 Comments

yuck yuck yuck… after the near digital death experience on my site [due to an all too hasty WordPress 2.2 upgrade that conflicted horribly with the underlying K2 theme] I deleted my custom css files that I’d tweaked for maxkaizen.com by mistake – utterly gone! :-/ so now I’m paying for my idiocy

So plz forgive the mangle & ugliness here for now – under re.construction & re.creation.

good gracious I am an ass! Linkloving in the blogroll needs unscrambling & reclassifying.. who knows what the hellacious is happening with the sidebars.. and boy Ultimate Tag Warrior not happy – - – - intravenous caffeine please!!

Hmmmm … so where was the back-ups :) Everytime I upgrade my WP, I sit on the edge of my chair. Actually I pace up and down and irritate everybody until it is done.

@Eric – you crazy man! thank you :) apparently I look like I’m keeping company with the thunder.gods today.

@Marius – I diligently do my backups every week just in case. So I felt completely at ease INITIALLY when the site crashed. But it got a bit messy when I saw that it was a deep conflict & caused all sorts of exciting corruptions. Got the site up after a lot of laborious FTP’ing on our s l o w broadband. Was happy again, all looked good ON THE OUTSIDE!! Thought that I’d backed up from a full database, but it didn’t have my CSS customisations or my plugins.
    yiiiiikes
And I’d cleared all the older database backups. NEVER again (she says with conviction as though it could command the funny fiddly hand of fate) :-/
    feeling verrrrry dof indeed twitter-friend

[...] I have blotted out the server name so that no-one can detect whose blog it is.  I suppose this is something all of us bloggers that host our own blogs have to deal with.  Databases that can go down or endless hassles when upgrading software as Max found out. [...]

    Just in case: http://www.ilfilosofo.com/blog/wp-db-backup

It lets you backup all tables, plus you can schedule it to email you the DB-file (.sql) as a tar-ball – so far it works well – have been able to reinstall it on a clean WP install: all plugins activated etc.

Clicking on your banner, I land on your root\url, displaying a Bluehost-image, instead of your home page (index.php)
Without the www. it works, so you have to fix the www. flavor.

BTW.. for anyone who has been running on K2 or TripleK2 and did the upgrade and was a little surprised with the mangle on the otherside – here are the co.ordinates to restore your sanity : http://schulte.mn/2007/05/04/disable-wordpress-widgets/
